I just finished writing a paper on my favorite gay bar, the Denver Wrangler-- specifically "Sweet", a monthly dance party, for my media writing class. In doing so, I realized how convergent this bar is so I thought I would write about it a bit here in the 'ole media journal/ blog. Okay, so there are 16 screens in the bar. Five of those screens are dedicated to 'Wrangler TV'. I've attached a pic above for you to see.
Anyway, Wrangler TV has everything we talked about in class.... Links to social media sites, money-generating advertisers, live real-time weather, links to the Denver Wrangler Web site, interactive photo galleries, drink specials, music features, etc.
I did a little more research to see how my favorite bar was taking advantage of convergence media. Turns out, they have a facebook page, twitter, and youtube.
I then took a look at Denver Eagle (competing bar)'s Web site. They too use social media.
Pretty cool, huh?
I'm diving into mass media for Spring semester 2010 at Metropolitan State College of Denver. I'll take a critical look at as many types of mass media as I can and write about them here. This is for my JRN 1010 project.
